Email from the Author - Ingrid Law

Hello!  The CMJH Book Club is reading Savvy by Ingrid Law.  So far it is so good!  We were honored to receive an email from Ingrid.  Here's what she said -

"To all the great readers and writers at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School - First let me say a big 'Hello' from Lafayette.  I have lived in Colorado since I was six years old and grew up in Boulder, so it is wonderful to hear that Colorado junior high school students are reading my book, Savvy, in Mrs. Guthrie's lunchtime book clubs.

As I'm sure you all know already, reading is one of the very best ways to learn how to write.  Reading is also a great way to learn about yourself and the world around you. 

I hope you have as much run reading Savvy as I had writing it!

Hoot-Book Review by Yoon P.

This book is the perfect match for you if you are into mystery and adventure. It is about a boy named Roy that moves from Montana to Coconut Cove, Florida. He encounters a strange fast boy that runs around the block with no shoes and ripped clothes.  Roy sees him as he is riding his bus to school. The boy has some concerns about a new Mother Paula's Pancake House coming to town and bulldozing an owl community.  Roy wants to help this strange boy but is constantly being watched by a strange construction manager and a policeman with his job on the line. In the end, Roy and the strange boy come up with a team with the boy's sister and risk anything to keep the owls in and Mother Paula's out. I strongly recommend this book because it is very exciting and unpredictable.

Catching Fire - Book Review by Skylar W.

    Catching Fire is the sequel to the Hunger Games.  If you like books that grab you by the throat

- READ ON!!!!!! This is what you have been searching for. There is no competition. This book makes you feel everything the characters feel. I cried when Rue died in the Hunger Games, when she was woven into the plot in Catching Fire, I almost cried again.  The author puts a picture in your mind that will not leave. This picture will nag at you  and get you to think. That is why I absolutely adore this book.

Banned Books Week

Hi everyone!  Banned Books Week is going on in the CMJH Library!  A Banned Book is a book that has been challenged in school libraries by a person or persons who thinks there is something inappropriate or controversial in the book.  The purpose of Banned Books Week is to promote INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM AND FIGHT AGAINST CENSORSHIP!    Don't let others tell you what to read!  Read what you want to read!  Reading is awesome!  Anyhoo, read one, come talk to me about why you think it made an appearance on the Banned Books List, and win a sweet prize.  I mean, sweet!  It will be worth it.  Can't wait to talk to you about your Banned Book!
